Bourns Offers the Broadest Product Line in SMD Power Inductors

The “non-shielded” Power inductors (SDR series) with 26 standard models are available in sizes from 3mm to 22mm with a maximum of 16Amps and an inductance range of 0.68uH to 15mH.

The preferred sizes are the 4mm (SDR0403), 6mm (SDR0604), 8mm (SDR0805) and 10mm (SDR1006). All these models are of a ”round” shape and are popular due to the minimum space needed on the PCB’s. 

Other popular models are the “oval” shaped types in 6mm (SDR6603), 10mm (SDR1005, PM3308, PM3340), 18mm (SDR1806) and 22mm (SDR2207).

All the non-shielded models are used where EMI is not critical in the application.

The “shielded” Power Inductors can be divided into three groups.

a. Group one are the models (SRR series) with either round, oval or square shapes. These models are have a range of thirty four standard ranges available. The inductance range is from 0.47uH to 15mH with a current up to 20Amps depending on size.
The square shape series are the models are most popular in applications are sizes of 4mm (SRR40xx), 5mm (SRR50xx), 7mm (SRR70xx) and wide range of the 12mm (SRR12xx). All these series offer different heights and the advantage for the engineer is to use one layout on the PCB but with a multiple choice of models.

b. Group two are the newest models (SRU series) having an octagonal shape. There are twenty three models available in 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 10mm. Each size offers up to 4models in different heights. The advantages of these series are the PCB space flexibility, one lay-out for multiple models selection, no rotation in the tape package and due to the newest ferrite materials used, lower DCR and higher currents compared to other models with the same size.
Lab-Kits are available on request (SRUxx-Lab1) and are a great tool to help the design engineer to select the right size with different model heights.

c. The third group is the High Current Power Inductors with total of ten models (SRP series). The sizes are 7, 8, 10 and 12mm with an inductance range of 0.1uH to 47uH and a current up to 60Amps. These series have a metal powdered core allowing to handle high currents.
Next to these series there are two models available with toroidal cores in a size of 30mm (PM21xx) having a wide inductance range of 1uH to 1mH and current range up to 26Amps.
The 12mm SRP models are available with a Lab-Kit (SRP12-Lab1) containing three models with six inductance values.
