KEMET Flex Crack Mitigation
For many years, customers have complained about flex cracks and have asked what KEMET was going to do to fix the issue. Following years of research and development KEMET are proud to bring to the market:
| Technology |

Floating Electrode
FE CAP |
Low to Mid Capacitance |

Floating Electrode means 2 capacitors in Series |

Flexible Termination
FF CAP |

| Open Mode |
Mid Capacitance |

Open Mode creates a safe margin area |

FT CAP
*New – Up to 2225 case size! |
High Capacitance |

Flexible Termination moves the crack away from ceramic body |
1st Solution: Floating Electrode
- Originally born out of the high-voltage ‘cascading electrode’ solution
- Creates 2 separate capacitors in series, within a given case size
- Any flex crack will not lead to creation of a short-circuit path
2nd Solution: Floating Electrode + Flexible Termination
- Combination of 1st and last solution
3rd Solution: Open Mode
- By compressing the active area, we create a safety zone in the margin areas of both ends of the device
- Any board flex crack that occurs can only cross electrodes of like polarity
- Very popular in the industry
4th Solution: Flexible Termination
- Can be applied to any MLCC
- Especially suited for HICV
- 2 Part Termination: Copper/Glass – Silver Epoxy
Flex Solutions

By continuing educated board layout with the latest MLCC technology, the effects of board flex can be mitigated.
