The CP power type relay
After years of consolidation, the through-hole reflow (THR) method has clearly established itself as the optimal processing method for soldering relays to a PC board.
SMD mounting, the technical advantages of THR include shock and vibration resistance, especially over the long run. The availability of the time-tested CP relay as a power type, combined with a PiP (Pin-in-Paste) design suited for reflow soldering, systematically expands the automotive product portfolio of Panasonic Electric Works Europe AG.
The CP power type relay series can be used to switch mid- to high-power loads of 30 to 40A in a new PiP constellation or using the conventional mounting processes THT or SMD in IP67 (RTIII). The ordering information for the power type CP relay contains an "H" for "high power", e.g. CP1a H12J. An optimized armature-coil system reduces the driving power consumption to 450mW (standard relay in comparison: 650mW).
Due to the increased switching capacity, the normally open contact has a double-pin design. In any case, we recommend the CP power type relay when designing new circuit boards. With a suitable class of relay, the performance demands placed on target applications are sure to be met, and the universal layout allows for maximum flexibility. Hence, various end-customer requirements can be met cost-effectively by simply choosing the appropriate relay but without having to redesign the circuit board.
